Modern warfare is often a tactical game played on several levels simultaneously. In social media and news media, in politics, on the energy market, and with military equipment, capabilities, and rhetoric. It is a game of minds that governs, psychology, driven by civil society.

To confuse and mislead aims to make an attacker hesitate so that you gain time. It can also be about using decoys to get an attacker to choose the "wrong weapon" and at the same time reveal their own position. It does not have to be about threats of attack or combat. You may just want to give the impression that you have a resource that you lack. A resource that probing eyes or sensors are now tricked into seeing.

This is where Mimicrys' dynamic signature adaptation comes into play. Being able to skillfully play false can be the difference between annexation and independence, between war and peace.

The company's name is borrowed from nature, where certain prey animals, often insects, mimic a more dangerous animal to deter and avoid being eaten. Mimicry is a phenomenon that can be described as a "protective similarity." It can apply to appearance or behavior; such as sounds, movement patterns, and chemical signals.

For those who prefer more imaginative comparisons, our dynamic system can be described as a superhero with two abilities: to make themselves invisible and to shapeshift. Taking the form of something other than you actually are – or giving the impression of a resource greater than you actually have – can make an attacker hesitate, even retreat. Simply creating a completely unexpected illusion can be enough. It can confuse an attacker, create hesitation, and give you that extra bit of time you need to anticipate, take cover, or escape.

Insect or superhero matters less. Hiding, misleading, or deterring a potential attacker provides advantages. Advantages that can ultimately save lives.

Mimicrys Systems AB has its roots in the city of birches, Umeå. The founder, Peder Sjölund, has a PhD in physics and extensive experience in military vehicle systems and the defense industry. Together with its equally experienced colleagues, purposefully hand-picked experts, Mimicrys is developing the next generation of stealth technology and signature adaptation.

With a hitherto unique technology, Mimicrys has created a controllable dynamic system for camouflage, stealth, and decoys. The company is among the few who, on the initiative of others, have been invited to participate in the EU's defense research within the framework of the EDF, European Defence Fund. There, actors from 19 countries are collaborating to develop a European tank concept with exceptional protection capabilities.
